It´s Christmas time !!!!!

Second visit to London in 2010, this time in the company of Olga and Ander. Finally, we enjoyed full London Christmas fervor. This trip was intended as a surprise to our friend Olga, but learned early ... The important thing is that the four I had a great time !

We start from Valladolid Ryanair´s  flight (left and arrived on time ...) to London - Stansted, where we get a hotel close to  the airport: a fabulous Radisson blu, 4 *, sauna, swimming pool, lots of restaurants and a fabulous "wine tower" at its center, where a stunt went up and down, as if suspended in space, picking up bottles of wine that customers requested. The rooms were very good and, despite being next to the airport, did not hear anything.

The hotel is perfectly situated for a quick visit to London, as both trains and buses to the "city" leave from the airport. From the hotel to the airport is less than five minutes walk and almost the whole journey is covered, to avoid suffering the weather. In this visit, "enjoyed" a wonderful average temperature .... 3 º C! (In Farenheith seemed more ...) . We were willing to make the most of the weekend!

On Friday we took a train to nearby residential population of Bishop's Stortford, where we walk through its streets, visited the Anglican Church (where a children's choir was singing Christmas songs) and surrounded by a "peculiar" graveyard of the late eighteenth century. The decoration of the streets was absolute and the Christmas spirit was all arround.

After walking along the town, we look for a good place for dinner ... and warm our feet!. We fell in a restaurant called "Zizzi" where the food was very rich and the service, much better!. I recommend the "rustic pizza" and the Italian beer they serve.

The village has several traditional English pubs and, of course, all sorts of restaurants ranging from fast food, Chinese, Indians, etc ... Is very well connected via train to Stansted (Stansted Express every 15 minutes) and buses.

We finished the day with a short break at the fabulous 2 meters bed of  the hotel .... zzzz

On Saturday we woke up early to catch the Easybus to London. The bus station is located at the airport. There are several companies that operate from Stansted. Easybus leaves you close to the city center and if booked through their website in advance, tickets are available from 2 lbs x journey.

Everytnig was frosted !!!, we got into the bus, driving to London, where we arrived in an hour. In Baker st. took the opportunity to take a picture  with Sherlok Holmes (Baker Street, Marylebone corner) and realize a delicious breakfast at a McDonalds based on pancakes with maple syrup, fried eggs, a couple of burgers, etc ...

After the breakfast, we walk to Oxford Street , shopping street par excellence of London , that was being closed to traffic to safely  the flood of people who would shoot into the streets from early morning. The Christmas atmosphere was absolute: from the front of M & S to fabulous showcases of Selfridge's, The Coca Cola Christmas truck was about to open to become a stage on wheels, where bands played  carols.
Others, like Mark & Spencer, encouraged passers-by with elves, who took pictures with everyone who asked for it!

The windows and facades seemed to compete among themselves. The Disney store was great! And the Christmas tree inside the store was wonderfull!!
During t
he rest of the morning we visit the most emblematic places and monuments of the city: Piccadilly, the National Gallery, Trafalgar Sq Nelson's Column, Downing Street, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, London Eye, Westminster Abbey, Victoria St. The Cathedral of London, Buckingham Palace and, of course ... Harrods!.

Exhausted ... take the tube to Piccadilly where we had a good meal in a TGI Friday's, to re-energize and prepare for the marathon shopping on Regent and Oxford St.

The streets were simply crowded!. The shopping environment was absolute. Millions of people in the streets, singing Christmas carols, crowded stores, shopping, shopping, shopping and more shopping!. If the shops were impressive during the day, at nightfall looked in all its splendor.

After entering all the shops of Oxford St, we decided to take a break and take the tube, if only to sit for a while, and go visit the Tower of London and the Castle. Although it was bloody cold, the night visit worthwhile.

Then we returned to school and we went to dinner at a "pret a manger" close to Covent Garden (Delicious their banana cake ..) and finally, at 10 am and after 14 hours straight ... we started to walk to Baker st. again to take the Easybus to  Stansted.

An hour later we arrived at our hotel where, exhausted, we went to sleep.

The next day we awoke a little bit later because the flight was mid-morning and the airport was vvery close to the hotel. After the check out we walk to the airport, where we had breakfast and, after passing through passport control, we relax in the Dutty free until we board and flow to Valladolid, where we got the car to bring us back to Ponferrada.
